L'vov - Introduction

Lvov, also known as Lviv and L’viv, is the biggest city in western Ukraine. It is one of the country’s main cultural centers and an important regional center as well as one of the prettiest Ukrainian cities.

The city largely escaped the devastation of WW II and is thus seen as a living museum full of original architecture from gothic times onwards. It is also the least Soviet stamped city in Ukraine and also features a historic UNESCO-protected town center.

Lvov attractions include over 100 churches, most centuries old, a myriad of museums, the Lychakivskiy Cemetery where notable Ukrainians are buried, Market Square, Town Hall, the art nouveau railway station, the Lvov Opera House and the Art Gallery. There is so much marvelous art and architecture that Lvov is often referred to as ‘the Florence of the East’.

Lots of nice cafés and lively night clubs complete the civilized atmosphere.
