         FACTS AT A GLANCE >>
Polite behavior is welcome everywhere, and what is considered polite in other countries is likely considered polite in Malaysia as well. However, there are some social and religious customs, unusual for western people, the breaking of which may be offensive for locals. For example, it is considered rude to point your finger, hand or foot at a person or an object.

Visiting a temple is usually a simple excursion for travelers, but it is obligatory to respect the religious traditions of believers. Visitors should dress neatly in all religious shrines. Never enter a shrine shirtless, in shorts, hot pants or other unsuitable attire. Shoes should be removed when entering Islamic mosques, as well as private Malay homes. When in a temple, legs and shoulders must be covered.
