Peru is located into the tropical belt near to the equator, but its climate is mainly affected by diverse landscape and the Humboldt sea current. There are 32 kinds of climate in the World and Peru has 28 of them. In other words, a trip through Peru can signify to come across with hot deserts, dry forests, humid savannas, plain rainforests, cold plateaus, cool steppes and icy mountains.
In general we can say that in the time of the northern hemisphere summer, in Peru you will have winter in the coast, and summer in the Andean highlands and the jungle. During winter in northern hemisphere, there will be a rainy season in the Andes and the jungle, but a hot summer all over the Peruvian coast.
The weather in the Coast is generally temperate and dry. There is a slight difference between its northern and southern part. In the north, it is warm and rainy in the summer. The central and southern coast has colder climate and drizzle is present in the winter in certain cities.
The sierra has a cold and dry weather on an average. When it rains, this is stronger in the northern Andes.
The Amazonic rainforest has hot, humid and rainy weather, especially in the summer. In this season, raining increases to a large extent, causing floods in low areas. |
