What are airline ticket cancellation fees

Airline ticket cancellation fees are charged by the airline in case you cancel your purchased airline ticket because you cannot or do not wish to travel on the booked travel dates. Non-refundable airline tickets are simply non-refundable, which means that such an airline ticket has no remaining value if you do not use it exactly as purchased.

Airline ticket cancellation fees are deducted by the airline from the originally paid airfare amount after you cancel a reservation and apply for a refund. Therefore, the refund you receive equals the total amount you paid for the airline ticket less the applicable penalty.

Cancellation penalties vary, but they typically start at US$200. Note that many discount tickets are non-refundable.
