This magnificent extravagant palace, boasting exotic oriental architecture both inside and out was built for the Prince Regent, later King George IV, in stages between 1787 and 1823. It was intended as a pleasure palace and was highly esteemed by fashionable Regency Society at the time. The Royal Pavilion also houses some of the finest examples of the Chinoiserie style in Britain.

 

The Lanes

Historic Brighton is characterized by charming winding lanes that host a variety of shops hawking antiques and jewelry, and even fortune telling. There are also numerous cafés, often hosting live performances. At night, the ghoulish Ghost Walks are a favorite with the crowds.

 

Brighton Pier / Palace Pier

Palace Pier features all the usual seafront arcade attractions. Popcorn and fried fish stalls abound, as do other fast-food venues, and the stores selling toys and souvenirs. The arcade is filled with various gaming machines and the funfair livens up the end of the pier.

 

Brighton Beach

Brighton beach is a nice pebble beach, immensely popular during the summer, crowded with tourists as well as locals.
