Stonehenge

Stonehenge, located on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England, in convenient vicinity of London,, is one of the most iconic archeological sites in Europe.

The prehistoric monument, believed to be erected around 2,500 BC, has been stirring imaginations and attracting visitors for centuries. Its purpose has been lost in the mists of time and modern man must be content with only speculation and guesswork.

The large standing stones, set in a circle have been thought to be a huge calendar, a sun worshipping temple, a healing center, or a burial site. Nobody is certain about its purpose, but Stonehenge remains one of the most evocative and mysterious ancient sites in Europe, as well as the world, and never fails to impress.

The entire World Heritage Site is extensive, measuring 2000 hectares, and incorporates over 200 monuments from the period of Neolithic and Bronze Ages.
