Christchurch - introduction

Christchurch is the largest city of New Zealand’s South Island and second largest city in the country.

Many visitors use it as a gateway for exploring the South Island of New Zealand but Christchurch itself has a lot to offer: it is a small city and its numerous parks, gardens and beaches portray a distinctly English character. It has a lively city center, brimming with pubs and restaurants.

Summers boast a rich cultural program that includes various festivals and concerts, many of which take place in Hagley Park, for example the Garden Festival and the International Busker’s Festival.

Visiting during the winters is fun as well because, while the city is blessed with mild temperatures, it is a convenient base for reaching the popular Mount Hutt ski resort.

Christchurch also offers a number of outdoor activities such as walking trails, cycling, horseback riding, swimming and water sports.
